Now Chris is releasing his first solo project. Having always wrote and recorded songs in a home studio, these particular tracks were not the type of songs that would be put forward for the band to perform, as they are totally different in style/direction/subject matter. They’ve never been heard until now.
Mellow, raw, dynamic, emotional, melodic pop songs, that are a far step way from his normal comfort zone, the contrast from the in your face indie rock to the subtle tones of this solo E.P will leave you pleasantly surprised.
Myself Fooling Me, is a 6 track solo E.P. written, produced and performed by Chris Mullin who whilst searching through the archives decided it was about time to release some of his un heard solo music. The 6 tracks where chosen from many, but they sit nicely next to each other and it felt right to leave it at that, no more, no less.. Plus there are plans to release a series of E.P.s consisting of more experimental styles of music and some featured vocalists will be making appearances, so there is plenty to go around and much more to come.
The title track ‘Myself Fooling Me’ was written over 20 years ago and brought back to life more recently after Chris had a one on one jamming session with Paul McCartney a few years back. Chris & Paul played the song together a few times over and Macca contributed the mid 8 section to the song and also suggested the title Myself Fooling Me (which was originally ‘Fooling Myself’). Paul loved the song himself and during the session he also said “John (Lennon) would of loved that, the lyrics are great”, what a compliment!
All songs where mostly recorded at his home studio apart from Myself Fooling Me was recorded in a recording studio in Liverpool City Centre with Rob Lewis engineering the recording session. The track features drums by ex band mate, Bren Moore (Smaller/The Sums/Ella Guru) & Fiona Holt O’Sullivan provides backing vocals.
